Production revolution in Plungė: a robot becomes part of the team
At the end of last year, a next-generation robot developed by ABB, a global technology leader, was introduced at Workshop No. 501 of Plungės kooperatinė prekyba.
Designed for the food industry and weighing approximately 750 kilograms, the machine represents a significant step toward modernizing production processes and increasing efficiency.
The new robot stands out for its advanced technology and compliance with the strictest safety and hygiene standards. It is coated with a special protective layer, and its construction includes food-grade bearings that ensure reliable, safe, and durable operation even in demanding production environments.
One of the main goals of this solution is to enhance employee safety and improve working conditions. Previously, the process relied on a mechanical inverter that required greater manual involvement and precision, with some operations performed by hand. With the implementation of the robotic solution, the process has been fully automated - reducing the likelihood of human error, optimizing workflows, improving work organization, and significantly saving time.
However, the implementation did not come without challenges. Installing the robot required specialized knowledge and expertise, while one of the biggest hurdles was employee training. Staff not only had to learn how to operate the new technology but also adapt to working alongside this modern tool.
Despite these challenges, the robotic solution marks a major step forward. It is an investment not only in faster and more efficient production, but also in employee safety, improved working conditions, and more effective use of time. Reduced risks and optimized processes once again confirm that technological progress can go hand in hand with care for people.
Today, the robot has successfully integrated into the daily work environment and has become an inseparable part of the team. The new “team member” is even being given a name - symbolically reflecting its importance to the entire workforce.
